About
The Théâtre du Châtelet hosts the Youssoupha Gospel Symphonique Experience on April 23 and 24, 2027. This unique show brings together the Franco-Congolese rapper with a choir and an orchestra conducted by Olivier Koundouno. Joined by pianist Manu Sauvage, the artist explores his catalog through original arrangements that forgo electronic sequences in favor of a purely organic symphonic approach. The venue is fully accessible to blind or visually impaired guests, ensuring an inclusive experience for all. Tickets are available at prices ranging from 5 to 70 euros, offering a bridge between rap, gospel, and classical music.
I also know that it is the French cultural exception that has allowed my rap to progress. So, indeed, there have been antagonisms, stigmatizations… But my French culture, my French rap, my Francophonie, it is indeed in France that I learned them!
Youssoupha,This concert is first and foremost a meeting between a rapper, a pianist, a choir, and an orchestra, conducted by Olivier Koundouno. It is also a meeting between several musical styles: rap, gospel, and so-called "classical" music. Carried by the committed lyrics of the Franco-Congolese rapper Youssoupha, the choristers and instrumentalists bring to life the arrangements created by the conductor, Olivier Koundouno.
At the crossroads of film music and grand opera, yet without abandoning rap, from which he has kept a taste for the sample, the composer and arranger has orchestrated an original score, devoid of pre-recorded sequences, deejay, and rhythmic set (drums, bass), to allow rubato to express itself, for the benefit of phrasing. And that is without counting the presence, on keyboard, of Manu Sauvage! All these ingredients come together for this… experience!
Our take on this event
Taking place at the Théâtre du Châtelet on April 23 and 24, 2027, the Youssoupha Gospel Symphonique Experience is a bold musical encounter. Led by conductor Olivier Koundouno, the performance integrates a choir and an orchestra with the distinctive rap style of Youssoupha, accompanied by pianist Manu Sauvage. This collaboration focuses on the artist's lyrical depth, reimagined through a sophisticated symphonic lens.
Composer Olivier Koundouno has crafted an entirely original score for this experience, intentionally omitting pre-recorded sequences, drums, bass, and deejay sets. By removing these elements, the arrangement emphasizes rubato and vocal phrasing, blending the aesthetic of film soundtracks with the grandiosity of opera while remaining faithful to the spirit of hip-hop and sampling.
The venue is adapted for blind or visually impaired visitors, providing an accessible environment for this concert. Tickets for the event are priced between 5 and 70 euros.
