Following its success at the Châtelet, the musical La Cage aux Folles is back, directed by Olivier Py and starring Laurent Lafitte!

American composer and lyricist Jerry Herman had his first hit in 1964 with Hello, Dolly! In 1983, he triumphed again on Broadway with La Cage aux Folles. With the help of Harvey Fierstein, author of the musical's libretto, these two advocates for LGBTQIA+ rights loosely adapted Jean Poiret's play to create an original work that, upon crossing the Atlantic, became an ode to diversity. Far from being confined to the clichés conveyed by theater or cinema, the new French production of La Cage aux Folles, translated and directed by Olivier Py, restores the work to its original context: the cabaret. On stage, Zaza sings and dances, but in real life, the artist raises the question of homoparenthood and declares the unconditional love of a parent for their child, beyond gender assignments. Because everyone has the right to be themselves! And when Laurent Lafitte lends his voice to the famous song I Am What I Am, he embodies the struggle of the "folles": fighting as much for indifference as for difference! More than forty years after its Broadway premiere, La Cage aux Folles remains an eminently political and festive work. Without a doubt, this is an opportunity to laugh, cry, and then laugh again, until you cry with laughter!
